The Master Science Management at the Technische Universität Berlin qualifies you for challenging tasks and leadership positions at universities and research institutions, in foundations, in science policy as well as in science and education administration. The curriculum combines management fundamentals based on the latest scientific findings with practical examples from the science context.

Learning goals

In addition to the structure of the science system, students learn about the political and economic framework and funding structures. Students gain knowledge in the areas of strategy development and implementation and are prepared to take on management activities in the science sector. They learn to successfully apply methods and instruments of cost and financial management and to professionally manage projects. In the specialization areas, students acquire in-depth specialist knowledge of management processes or marketing and communication strategies for everyday professional life. Upon completion of the program, you will master the legal framework, have knowledge of quality management and be able to use this knowledge in leading positions in everyday professional life and thus shape change processes. In the science marketing field of study, students learn to develop communication concepts and to use them in a targeted manner for successful marketing and the representation of the interests of scientific institutions.

The first four of the total of eight modules are taken by all students. It is possible to continue the study program without specialization in science management or to complete it with the science marketing specialization. As part of the differentiation, students complete four compulsory modules of their respective specialization.

  • Managers who are already active in the professional field and would like to reflect on their work and ground it theoretically,
  • as well as newcomers and career changers who would like to qualify for science management and marketing in addition to their professional expertise

Prerequisites

Admission requirements for applicants with a completed undergraduate degree:
  • Completed undergraduate studies (Bachelor, Diplom, Magister, etc.) and
  • Proof of qualified practical work experience of at least one year in one or more of the fields of practice that are part of the curriculum of the degree program
Admission requirements for applicants without a first university degree, but with professional qualifications:
  • At least five years of professional experience and
  • Passing of an aptitude test
