ENTREPRENEURIAL THINKING AND BEHAVIOUR IN TURBULENT TIMES
17.10.2024 – 19.10.2024

Uncertainty and unpredictability are among the greatest challenges of our time. In addition to the effects of climate change, digitalization and the innovations brought about by AI, these also include those caused by demographic change. They require constant adaptation and innovation of products, services and/or business models. In order to remain or become capable of meeting these challenges, classic management approaches can be leveraged and enhanced by looking at alternative thinking and decision-making processes. This course reviews 5 principles of Effectuation and provides a complementary approach designed to arm participants with the tools they need for working successfully and entrepreneurially in turbulent times.

Learning goals

After completing the course, participants will be able to analyse in which situations classic management methods need to be complemented by entrepreneurial ones. They will be able to apply the 5 principles of effectuation to uncertain and unpredictable situations and to reflect on their own entrepreneurial thinking and actions. Based on their resources, they are able to determine next steps despite uncertainty and to develop solutions to problems together with a wide range of partners.

This interactive course incorporates impulse lectures as well as individual, pair and group exercises. In addition, artistic methods such as role-playing, improvisation and storytelling are used and practical examples are addressed, together with reflection units.

Content

  • Basics of the alternative entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship approach of effectuation (a way of thinking and decision-making that is based on the idea that entrepreneurs create their future by taking action and making things happen)
  • Analysis and reflection of the relevance of one's own entrepreneurial attitude
  • Tools from the effectuation approach for the next step, enabling decisions despite uncertainty
  • Different forms of interaction with different partners and stakeholders

LECTURER

Sigrid Peuker is a journalist and communications scientist. Through her work as a project manager, system administrator, online editor, research assistant and most recently as head of a start-up center, she has been familiar with technical and entrepreneurial innovations since the 1980s and knows what social and personal changes go hand in hand with them. Ms Peuker incorporates this experience into her teaching at universities and in business, in advising companies or organizing events. She also designs and coordinates courses in the field of entrepreneurship, in which the development of the entrepreneurial personality is integrated as a decisive factor. Over the past 20 years, she has worked with more than 200 founders to develop innovations and business models. She has found the combination of methods from the arts with various communication tools and structuring approaches to be particularly helpful in bringing ideas to reality, both for start-ups and for innovations in existing companies.
