LEADERSHIP COMPETENCE FOR THE AGE OF AI
Leadership is more than authority – it is the ability to motivate people, unlock potential, and steer organisations in a shared direction. In a working world fundamentally transformed by digitalisation and artificial intelligence, leaders face new challenges and opportunities alike.
This two-day course combines current research knowledge on leadership behaviour, personality, and communication with concrete tools for everyday leadership – and demonstrates in practical terms how AI-supported processes will shape the leadership work of tomorrow.
Experience scientifically grounded content, intensive reflection phases, and application-oriented exercises in a small, interactive learning group.
Learning goals
After successfully completing the course, participants will be able to:- know the most important leadership styles and behaviours and understand what effects they produce under different conditions.
- understand how Empowering Leadership and visionary leadership sustainably motivate people – and which individual differences need to be taken into account.
- be able to assess how performance and job satisfaction can be promoted simultaneously through targeted leadership actions.
- have reflected on your own personality and leadership style using established models (including the Big Five) and identified concrete areas for development.
- have command of fundamental communication principles for leadership situations and be able to apply them directly in practice.
- understand how AI applications are already changing leadership processes and have gained first practical experience using AI in leadership contexts.
Content
Day 1 – Fundamentals, Personality & Communication- Fundamentals of leadership: definition, significance, and methods of empirical leadership research
- Leadership personality I: The Big Five model, personality test & reflection
- Leadership personality II: Growth mindset, self-efficacy, self-regulation, locus of control, time management – including practical exercises
- Communication in leadership roles: The Yale model, principles of persuasion according to Cialdini, role plays
Day 2 – Empowering Leadership, Vision & AI
- Empowering Leadership: state of research, advantages and disadvantages, self-diagnostics, case studies
- Visionary leadership: opportunities and limitations, case studies, role plays
- Leadership and Artificial Intelligence: how AI is transforming leadership work, opportunities and risks
- AI in practice: hands-on exercises, closing reflection, and transfer planning for everyday professional life
Target group
This course is aimed at all individuals who wish to bring their leadership knowledge up to date and expand their practical leadership skills in the age of AI – regardless of industry or hierarchical level.What This Course Will Change

Prerequisites
No formal prerequisites are required.All that is needed is an interest in and curiosity about the topic of leadership.

Prof. Dr. Eric Kearney has been a Professor of Leadership at the University of Potsdam since April 2014. Prior to this role, he was a Professor of Organisational Behaviour & Human Resource Management at the Faculty of Economics of Leibniz Universität Hannover. He has taught at numerous German and international universities and business schools including Freie Universität Berlin; Technische Universität Berlin; Humboldt-Universität Berlin; Universidad Autónoma de Madrid; Krannert School of Management / Purdue University; Central European University, Budapest; FGV, Rio de Janeiro; Universidad de Chile, Santiago de Chile; and Tongji University, Shanghai.
His research in leadership and team management has been published in leading international journals such as the Academy of Management Journal, Organization Science and the Journal of Applied Psychology. For many years, he has advised companies and managers on the topics of leadership, motivation and teamwork.
