This certificate course provides a deep insight into the topic of digitalization of transport and deals with practices and scenarios. Through a close exchange with the lecturers and expert guest speakers, participants will gain specialist knowledge, whilst also working intensively on their own, practical project.

Learning goals

After successful completion of the course, participants will be able to define application fields, challenges and bottlenecks. They will understand trends in transport digitalization and will take home lessons from real-world cases, meeting manager and policy makers. Moreover, they build up their own project on digitalization, with the support of the lectures and experts and will develop strategic, long-term, future-oriented thinking about the digitalization of the transport industry, service and governance.


  • Overview of ICT and transport, looking at digitalization between “business as usual” and disruptive innovations
  • Main thematic points: CCAM, MaaS, City logistic, Sharing/flexible transport, Digital twin, Digitalization and planning for carbon neutral mobility
The course will tackle the content through the lens of business, tech, policy and user´s perspective. All participants can undertake their own project, which can be developed within the course with the support of lecturers and experts (confidentiality applies).

Target group

Policy makers and industry representatives; transport operators and infrastructure managers; transport agency officers, governmental and NGO analysts.


  • English level of at least B1 (according to the European Framework)

This certificate course comprises a phase of guided self-study, followed by a phase of intensive, in-person sessions in Berlin. The opening session will take place on 06.11.2023, after which the self-study phase commences. From 06.11.2023 to 26.11.2023, online sessions will be held every Monday, from 16:00-18:00 (for 2 hours) and every Thursday, from 16:00-17:00 (for 1 hour). The in-person phase will take place in Berlin from 27.11.2023 to 30.11.2023.


Prof. Dr. Massimo Moraglio and Gabriele Grea
Prof. Dr. Massimo Moraglio is a Senior Researcher at Technische Universität Berlin, working on technology and its wide effects on economic, social and cultural fields. He was awarded an M.A. in Political Sciences at Turin University in 1998 and in 2003, received a Ph.D. in Urban Planning History at the Polytechnic University of Turin. His previous fields of investigation encompass the history of medical science; the history of public and private institutions; and the political history of the Italian catholic hierarchy, with a focus on both the 19th and 20th centuries. He has published numerous books, essays and articles in this field. More recently, he has been focusing on the relationship between technology and society, as well as sustainable mobility and environmental studies. Highlights of his career so far include an EU Marie Sklodowska Curie IEF fellowship conducted at Technische Universität Berlin and a fellowship at the Rachel Carson Centre in Munich (Jan-July 2014). He is currently Editor-in-chief of The Journal of Transport History and a member of the Editorial Board of three other international journals. His 100+ publications encompass books in Italian and English, including editing and co-editing and articles in international journals. He has co-organized and participated in 50+ national and international conferences. He has been appointed as a peer referee for international academic journals, as well as an evaluator for American and European research institutes and centres. He has conducted, researched and taught in universities in Italy, France and Germany. In addition to running student workshops, summer programs and general duties as a Professor’s Assistant during his career, he has also supervised B.A. and M.A. student theses, as tutor and co-tutor. In 2012, he received the qualification of Professor in modern history, granted by the Italian Education Ministry.

Gabriele Grea is Scientific Consultant and Researcher in the field of transport and territorial economics. His activity concerns in particular the themes of smart and sustainable mobility, infrastructures and territorial development. He has undertaken projects in the fields of urban mobility, regional, urban and infrastructures planning, energy policies and ICT for transport and mobility. His has been involved in a range of R&D Projects funded by the European Commission (Horizon 2020, 7th and 6th Framework Programme, Interreg, Marco Polo, DG TREN-DG MOVE Projects) since 2002. He is an Expert Fellow at the Department of Institutional Analysis and Public Management of Bocconi University in Milan, where he is lecturer in Urban Mobility Management and Smart Cities; and sustainable and intelligent mobility in the Master Course MEMIT (Master in Economics and Management of Transportation, Logistics and Infrastructure). In addition, he teaches business modelling for sustainable mobility at Technische Universität Berlin, in the MBA in Sustainable Mobility Management.
